PT Sucofindo promotes carbon market and food security innovation

PT Sucofindo (Persero) is promoting two strategic issues for the 2026 Environmental and Social Innovation Awards (ENSIA): the development of carbon markets and the strengthening of food supply chain resilience. The awards follow the theme “Innovation for Sustainable Business and Resilient Community.”

Bonn Choi, a Senior Researcher at the Korea Research Institute on Climate Change (KRIC), noted that implementing Article 6 of the Paris Agreement provides opportunities to develop carbon market mechanisms as effective tools for emission reduction. Such mechanisms can support Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targets while creating new revenue streams through carbon trading.

Indonesia possesses significant potential for emission reduction projects across various sectors, including energy, waste management, sustainable agriculture, forestry, and Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS/CCUS) technologies. Experts suggest that accelerating the carbon market requires identifying priority sectors, strengthening regulations, and integrating emission reduction sources into an Emissions Trading System (ETS).
