PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya reports 11.79% monthly container growth

PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (TPS) reported an 11.79% month-on-month increase in container throughput for July 2026, rising from 116,000 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) in June to 130,000 TEUs in July. This growth was driven entirely by international container traffic.

Despite the monthly gains, year-on-year data for the period of January–July 2026 shows a decrease. International throughput reached 807,000 TEUs, down 6.94% from 867,000 TEUs in the same period last year. Total throughput (domestic and international) fell 8.59% year-on-year, from 908,000 to 830,000 TEUs. The company attributed this annual decline to the transition and integration of new equipment, specifically four Electric Quay Container Cranes (E-QCC) and 14 Electric Rubber Tyred Gantry (E-RTG) units, which require installation and testing periods to reach optimal productivity.

In terms of trade, July exports grew 20.54% month-on-month to 68,000 TEUs, while imports grew 3.39% to 61,000 TEUs. Regarding productivity, TPS recorded an average loading/unloading rate of 51 boxes per ship per hour during the first two months of 2026, exceeding the Ministry of Transportation's minimum standard of 48 boxes per ship per hour.
