PT Timah office burned in Belitung Timur as miners protest tin price

On 7 August 2026, thousands of tin miners in Belitung Timur, Indonesia, set fire to PT Timah Tbk’s production‑unit office and a company warehouse after growing frustration over the low price paid for their ore. The protesters demanded that the company purchase tin at a fair price of Rp200,000 per kilogram, citing a prior agreement of Rp170,000 that had not been honoured. In response, PT Timah’s regional head, Feryandi, met the demonstrators to open dialogue. DPR Commission XII chair Bambang Patijaya urged calm and explained that a presidential regulation (Perpres) providing a legal basis for PT Timah to buy tin from miners has already been signed by the President and is awaiting final numbering.
