PT Usha briefs Amit Shah on Olympic bid and sporting success
Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president PT Usha met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss India’s recent sporting achievements and future international hosting ambitions. The discussions included a review of India’s performance at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where the nation finished fourth in the medal standings with 39 medals, including 13 gold, 17 silver, and nine bronze. Notable successes included boxing, which yielded seven gold medals, and a record performance by Indian para-athletes.
The meeting also addressed preparations for the upcoming Asian Games in Japan and the ongoing efforts to secure India’s bid to host the 2036 Summer Olympics. Ahmedabad has been identified as the proposed host city for the Olympic Games. As part of this long-term strategy, India is also set to host the Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad in 2030 to demonstrate its organizational capabilities.
