Pétanque: German youth championships and professional debuts

The 1. FC Steinegg-Bietbouler e. V. is hosting the German Youth Pétanque Championships in Steinegg on September 12 and 13, 2026. The event is expected to draw between 200 and 250 young players from ten different state associations across Germany, accompanied by approximately 70 coaches and supervisors.

The competition features three disciplines: the classic Triplette, which is contested in four age categories (Minimes, Cadets, Juniors, and Espoirs), as well as precision shooting and placement competitions.

In professional play, the German national team (Equipe Allemagne) recently made its debut at the Masters de Pétanque in France in August 2026. Players noted significant differences between French and German tournament structures, specifically regarding equipment regulations. At the Masters, players were provided with used sponsor-provided balls just five minutes before matches to ensure visual distinction between teams for spectators.
