PTC launches FeatureScript MCP server for AI-driven Onshape design

PTC has launched the FeatureScript MCP (Model Context Protocol) server for its Onshape CAD and PDM platform. This new capability, available through the Onshape Labs early-access program, allows engineers to use natural language to create, test, debug, and refine custom CAD features via AI agents.

By connecting AI platforms such as Claude, Gemini, or ChatGPT directly to Onshape’s proprietary programming language, FeatureScript, the tool enables users who are not professional developers to build complex automation tools. The system aims to move beyond simple text-to-CAD generation toward a “text-to-code-to-CAD” workflow, allowing companies to capture engineering knowledge and turn proven design practices into reusable, custom engineering toolsets.
