Péter Arató, renowned Hungarian engineer and academic, dies at 85

Péter Arató, a prominent Hungarian electrical engineer, computer scientist, and Széchenyi Prize winner, has passed away at the age of 85. A full member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Arató held significant leadership roles, including serving as the dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) from 2001 to 2006.

Throughout his career, Arató made substantial contributions to digital technology, logical synthesis, and the design of control units. He was recognized for his ability to bridge academic research with industrial applications. His long-standing dedication to education and the mentorship of young researchers earned him the BME Master Teacher Gold Medal in 2013.

In addition to the Széchenyi Prize, his professional achievements were honored with several prestigious awards, including the Csáki Frigyes Prize, the Kozma László Memorial Medal, the Simonyi Károly Prize, and the Pro Facultate Prize.
