Péter Horváth resigns as president of National Teachers' Corps

Péter Horváth has resigned from his position as president of the National Teachers' Corps (NPK), effective October 4, 2026. Horváth cited his responsibilities as an institutional leader, other duties, and family reasons for his departure.

Botond Miklós Rázsi, the current vice president, will perform the duties of the presidency until a new leader is elected by the National Delegate Assembly, which is expected to take place in November 2026.

The NPK was established by the previous government to unify teachers from state and municipal educational institutions. Membership is automatic for educators in the public education system. The organization has faced criticism from various teacher unions, such as the Democratic Union of Teachers (PDSZ), which argued that automatic membership does not constitute genuine representation. The future of the NPK has been a subject of debate following announcements by Minister Judit Lannert regarding the potential removal of mandatory membership.
