Péter Magyar announces 500 billion forint increase for healthcare
Prime Minister Péter Magyar announced that the 2027 budget will focus on justice and development, aiming to support groups neglected by the previous administration. A key component of this budget is a 500 billion forint increase in healthcare funding.
Addressing the healthcare crisis, the government intends to tackle long waiting lists through programs led by Health Minister Zsolt Hegedűs. An experimental program involving tens of billions of forints will target hip and knee replacements, as well as cataract surgeries, where wait times are currently most significant. Currently, approximately 30,000 people are waiting for hip or knee replacements in Hungary, with some waiting up to five years.
The administration stated that the 2027 budget will prioritize healthcare, education, social services, law enforcement, and support for pensioners, families, and small businesses. The Prime Minister emphasized the need for a disciplined and sustainable budget to stabilize the economy.
