Hungarian Government abolishes mandatory chamber fees

The Hungarian government has announced a major overhaul of the economic chamber system, including the abolition of the mandatory 5,000 HUF annual chamber contribution. This decision is expected to provide financial relief to nearly 900,000 businesses.

In response to the announcement, the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MKIK) stated it is open to defining new types of tasks and funding models that better align with the economic weight of various enterprises. The MKIK expressed readiness to cooperate with the government to support domestic competitiveness and value creation.

Minister István Kapitány noted that the government will conduct a full audit of the chamber system, including its financing, the relationship between central and regional chambers, and state supervision. The government is also reviewing previous agreements and state subsidies. Under the new system, central and regional chambers will need to develop specific business development programs to qualify for state support.
