Péter Magyar discusses same-sex rights and constitutional reform
Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar has expressed caution regarding same-sex marriage, stating that while he does not intend to promote its legalization, he believes it is better for a child to grow up with same-sex parents than in a foster home. He announced plans to reform adoption rules so that decisions for individuals seeking to adopt are made by experts rather than politicians.
In an interview with the Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat, Magyar emphasized his duty to represent all Hungarians on sensitive issues such as sexual minority rights and euthanasia. He also outlined major government objectives, including the complete rewriting of the national constitution, a process expected to take at least a year and conclude with a referendum.
Regarding foreign policy, Magyar stated that he does not intend to provide military aid to Ukraine or allow the transit of weapons through Hungary, though he aims to restore bilateral relations through gradual steps. He also noted a potential meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at an upcoming EU summit.
