Péter Magyar marks 100 days of Hungarian government transition
Following the first 100 days of his administration, Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar has focused on restoring liberal institutions and values that were dismantled by the previous regime. Magyar stated that while 100 days is insufficient to repair fifteen years of previous governance, the government has taken significant steps toward the rule of law and anti-corruption efforts.
Key achievements cited by the administration include reclaiming state assets by dissolving public interest foundations, reducing political salaries and benefits, and establishing the National Asset Recovery and Protection Office. These actions are intended to restore cooperation with European partners and unlock thousands of billions of forints in development funding.
Magyar noted that the government has already begun curbing large-scale state commitments to address budget deficits and limited fiscal space. Looking forward, the administration aims to address systemic issues in healthcare, education, child protection, social services, and transportation to drive economic growth and revitalize rural Hungary.
