Péter Nádas, acclaimed Hungarian author, dies at 83

Renowned Hungarian author Péter Nádas has passed away at the age of 83. Recognized as a major figure in Central European literature and a perennial Nobel Prize candidate, Nádas was noted for his voluminous, surreal, and historical works.

His literary contributions include the massive trilogy ‘Parallel Stories’, which took 18 years to complete, and the autobiographical work ‘Illuminated Details’. His writing often explored the complexities of memory, human psychology, and the historical shadows of a Europe shaped by antisemitism and major ideologies. Born in Budapest in 1942, Nádas worked as a journalist and dramatist before establishing himself as a world-class novelist.
