Péter Takács defends COVID-19 medical equipment procurement

Péter Takács, a Fidesz health politician and former acting director of Szent János Hospital, has defended the Hungarian government's procurement of medical equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic. Speaking on a Fidesz faction podcast, Takács addressed criticisms regarding the cost of medical supplies, specifically responding to claims that significant funds were wasted on ineffective equipment.

Takács highlighted the challenges faced during the early stages of the pandemic, noting that Hungary was among the first to treat COVID-19 patients. He mentioned that Kútvölgy Hospital served as the country's first quarantine hospital. He specifically defended the purchase of non-invasive ventilation machines, arguing that while critics may compare them to simple snoring prevention devices, they are essential for maintaining lung function through continuous high-pressure ventilation and have saved thousands of lives.
