PTPTN loan arrears reach RM10.7 billion in Malaysia

The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) has reported loan arrears totaling RM10.7 billion, involving approximately 1.16 million borrowers as of August 31, 2026.

In response to inquiries from Jelebu Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias, the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) outlined several initiatives to strengthen loan management. These include refining loan terms and conditions to ensure financing is more targeted toward individuals with genuine financial need. The Ministry also aims to improve collection effectiveness through enforcement and strategic collaborations with government agencies and corporate entities.

For borrowers facing financial difficulties, PTPTN remains open to discussions regarding repayment schedules. Options such as loan restructuring or payment deferment are available to eligible borrowers based on their financial capacity.
