Puan Maharani: 5% parliamentary threshold not yet official

Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Puan Maharani, stated that discussions regarding a 5 percent parliamentary threshold and new requirements for presidential candidate nominations are not yet official decisions. These topics are currently part of informal discussions between political parties and have not been formally deliberated within the DPR.

Maharani noted that the revision of the Election Law is in its early stages. While various ideas regarding election rules are being discussed, the final figures for the parliamentary threshold and the mechanisms for nominating presidential and vice-presidential pairs will only be determined during official parliamentary sessions.

The PDI Perjuangan faction expressed readiness to participate in formal discussions. The goal of the upcoming revisions is to create an election system that is effective, efficient, and beneficial for the nation, with the next general election scheduled for 2029.
