Puan Maharani urges strengthened dengue prevention in Indonesia
Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, has called for the government to strengthen the role of community health centers (Puskesmas) and mosquito larvae monitoring cadres (Jumantik) following a rise in dengue fever (DBD) cases.
Climate change and weather phenomena, including long droughts and transitional seasons, have contributed to the breeding of mosquito larvae. Significant case increases have been reported in several regions, including DKI Jakarta, Bekasi, and Tulungagung. In South Jakarta, 1,314 cases were recorded through September 2026, while Bekasi reported 2,250 cases between January and September 2026. In Tulungagung, East Java, 315 cases were reported, resulting in two deaths.
Puan requested that the Ministry of Health conduct comprehensive mapping of dengue distribution to identify areas requiring enhanced prevention and medical services. She emphasized that despite improvements in the Case Fatality Rate (CFR) in recent years, controlling diseases spread by Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes must remain a priority.
