Public Administration Employees Association threatens strikes in Lebanon

The Public Administration Employees Association has issued a statement asserting its status as the sole legitimate representative for public sector workers. The association warned the government that any agreements regarding employees must be negotiated directly with its administration, which is recognized by the Ministry of Interior.

The association’s primary demands include a comprehensive salary correction to restore purchasing power to pre-crisis levels. They have rejected a proposal involving a 30-fold increase if it results in the cancellation of other existing compensations, arguing this would disadvantage lower-income public sector groups. Additionally, they are calling for transportation allowances to be linked to fuel prices (specifically 10 liters of gasoline per day) and an increase in health, social, and educational benefits.

Due to rising transportation costs, the association announced that every Friday will serve as a day of forced closure. They have also scheduled a strike for Thursday, September 17, 2026, and warned that the frequency of forced closures will increase toward a total shutdown if their demands continue to be ignored.
