Blockchain industry revenue projected to reach $100 billion in 2026
The blockchain industry is facing a projected revenue contraction, with investment firm 1kx estimating total revenue will hit approximately $100 billion in 2026. This represents a 28% decline from the $140 billion generated in 2025, a downturn attributed largely to falling digital asset prices.
Despite the overall market shrinkage, publicly traded companies have significantly increased their market share, capturing 16% of blockchain revenue in 2026 compared to just 7% in 2022. Revenue concentration remains high, with the six largest public firms accounting for 50% to 60% of the group’s total. Major players such as Coinbase and Circle combined for roughly $3.3 billion in blockchain revenue during the first half of 2026.
A notable shift occurred in Q3 2026, when revenue from real-world economic activities, including tokenized assets, payments, and prediction markets, surpassed blockchain infrastructure revenue for the first time. While core cryptocurrency trading has seen volatility, companies like Coinbase are diversifying; Coinbase reported that subscription and services revenue now accounts for nearly 49% of its net revenue, driven by growth in prediction markets and stablecoin services.
