Public construction projects in A Coruña and Tarragona face delays
Work on the Novo Chuac tower, the first building of the new public hospital in A Coruña, has been halted for several months because of economic disagreements with the contractor. The regional infrastructure department says the dispute over extra excavation costs is being resolved and expects construction to resume around September, with completion now projected for mid‑2027. The delay does not affect patient care, as the tower houses only administrative services.
In Tarragona, the development of the new Col·legi Sant Pau neighbourhood remains stalled. After a credit amendment was approved, the project still awaits the public tender, and additional archaeological surveys required by the Catalan cultural heritage commission have added about a year and a half of paralysis. Property owners, represented by Carlos Segarra, say the prolonged bureaucracy is worsening the housing shortage, while the city council plans to fund the extra surveys to move the project forward.
