Public education system in Buenos Aires outlines enrollment procedures

The public education system in the City of Buenos Aires serves over 500,000 students across various levels, from initial to secondary education. Managed by the local Ministry of Education, the system includes special and adult education modalities.

For the 2027 school year, enrollment is scheduled to take place between November and December 2026 via an official online platform. Parents or guardians must register on the City Government platform and select up to five school options. Vacancies are assigned based on criteria such as proximity to the home and the presence of siblings in the same institution. If preferred schools lack space, the system offers alternatives within a 1.5-kilometer radius, with the Ministry intervening to guarantee placement if necessary.

Student rights within the system include free access to education, the right to remain in school until age 18, the provision of teaching materials, and participation in school councils. The legal framework also ensures inclusion for students with disabilities and establishes protocols against bullying and discrimination.
