Public employees in Menorca and Calvià stage labor disputes
In Menorca, officials of the Consell de Menorca are set to receive an average salary increase of 4.7 percent. This rise occurs despite the suspension of productivity bonuses, as the increase is driven by the application of a residence allowance. Maria Antònia Taltavull, the Counselor of Economy and General Services, stated that total salary increases could exceed 8 percent when accounting for upcoming professional career applications.
Opposition members, including Esteve Barceló of Més, criticized the move, arguing that workers should not suffer a loss of purchasing power while a new productivity program is being developed. A proposal to implement an immediate alternative productivity program was defeated by votes from the PP government team and independent counselor Maite de Medrano.
Meanwhile, in Calvià, approximately 200 municipal employees protested at the Town Hall to denounce the blockade of collective bargaining negotiations. Unions STEI, UGT, and SPPME expressed frustration over the government's perceived lack of willingness to negotiate improvements regarding wages, purchasing power, and work-life balance measures.
