Brazil election campaigns receive R$ 3.38 billion in declared funds

Campaign financing for the 2026 Brazilian elections has reached R$ 3.38 billion in declared resources, with 93% of the total originating from public funds. According to data from the 72Horas platform, which monitors information from the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), R$ 3.03 billion came from the Special Campaign Financing Fund (FEFC) and R$ 108.9 million from the Party Fund.

Former professional football players have been significant beneficiaries of these party funds, receiving a combined R$ 4.8 million. Notable recipients include Danrlei (PSD-RS), who received R$ 2 million for his reelection bid as a federal deputy; Edmundo (PSDB-RJ), who received R$ 1.4 million; and Vanderlei Luxemburgo (Podemos-TO), who obtained R$ 500,000 for his Senate candidacy.

Other recipients include Washington Coração Valente (MDB-DF) with R$ 500,000 and Marcelinho Carioca (Republicanos-DF) with R$ 370,300. While federal deputy campaigns account for 56% of the total declared funds (R$ 1.9 billion), nearly half of all registered candidacies have not yet reported receiving any revenue to the Electoral Court.
