Public health agencies launch infectious disease training in Nigeria and Sudan

Public health institutions in Nigeria and Sudan are implementing training programs to strengthen responses to infectious diseases.

In Zaria, Nigeria, the National Institute of Public Health and Infectious Diseases (NIPHID) has launched a five-week training course for 55 supervisors. The program focuses on improving grassroots capacity for managing tuberculosis, leprosy, and Buruli ulcer through clinical training, monitoring, and evaluation.

In Sudan, the World Health Organization and the Federal Ministry of Health have initiated a seven-day training-of-trainers program in Khartoum. The initiative aims to prepare 85 healthcare and support workers for potential Ebola virus disease outbreaks, focusing on clinical management and infection prevention. While the current risk of Ebola transmission in Sudan is considered low, officials noted that strengthening preparedness is critical due to cross-border population movements and ongoing transmission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
