Public health agencies launch rabies vaccination clinics

Public health organizations in Ontario, Canada, and New York, United States, are launching vaccination initiatives to combat rabies by offering reduced-cost or free clinics for pets.

In the Lakelands region, Lakelands Public Health is partnering with local animal welfare organizations and veterinary clinics to host a fall campaign of reduced-cost rabies vaccination clinics. The initiative aims to lower financial barriers for pet owners to ensure compliance with Ontario regulations, which require cats, dogs, and ferrets to be vaccinated. This effort is intended to protect both animals and the community from the fatal viral disease.

In Chautauqua County, New York, the Chautauqua County Health Department is collaborating with the Town of Ripley, the Chautauqua County Humane Society, The Pet Pantry, and the Lakeshore Humane Society to host four free rabies vaccination clinics. These clinics are available for dogs, cats, and ferrets aged three months and older. Pre-registration is required for these sessions, which aim to help residents comply with New York State Public Health Law.
