Public health and environmental issues reported in Santos and Criciúma

In Santos, Brazil, health agents conducted a large-scale mobilization in the Boqueirão neighborhood to combat the Aedes aegypti mosquito. During the 22nd campaign, agents visited 1,410 properties and eliminated 32 larval breeding sites found in drains, plant pots, buckets, and gutters. Despite the efforts, officials noted 94 refusals to allow entry into residences, contributing to a yearly total of 1,427 refusals. Authorities emphasized the need for resident cooperation to ensure effective inspections and prevent the spread of dengue, zika, and chikungunya.

In Criciúma, Santa Catarina, local authorities identified a market responsible for the illegal disposal of decomposing meat into a river. Following a report to the Civil Defense, teams discovered approximately seven or eight bags of packaged food and decaying meat in the water. The municipal environmental department has been notified to take administrative measures against the establishment. Officials highlighted the environmental impact of the waste, noting it compromises water quality and disrupts local ecosystems.
