Public health campaigns and media coverage curb teen vaping, UC San Diego finds
A study published on April 2 found that public health campaigns and widespread news coverage of vaping-related lung injuries contributed to a decline in teen vaping, with more teens attempting to quit and fewer teens interested in trying it.
Researchers at UC San Diego reported that anti-vaping advertising and coverage of a 2019 vaping-related lung-injury outbreak were significantly associated with increased quit attempts among teen vapers and reduced openness to vaping among teens who had never tried it.
Together, the studies underscore how information and media messaging can influence teen vaping behavior.
