Public health reports highlight scorpion stings in Argentina and tuberculosis in Chile

In Mendoza, Argentina, epidemiological bulletins from the Ministry of Health report five cases of scorpion stings in San Rafael across 2024 and 2025. Three cases were recorded in 2024 and two in 2025. Throughout the entire province, a total of 16 cases were documented during this period, with eight cases reported in each year. The incidents were distributed among the departments of San Rafael, Malargüe, Las Heras, and Guaymallén. Health officials emphasize that scorpion envenomation is a medical emergency requiring immediate attention, as some species can be lethal.

In Chile, the Antofagasta Region continues to report high rates of tuberculosis (TBC), ranking third in national incidence. New diagnoses have increased by approximately 20%. For 2026, the projected incidence rate is 22.0 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, totaling roughly 160 patients, which is comparable to the 170 confirmed cases in 2025. Health officials attribute the vulnerability to factors such as stress and poor diet, and are focusing on active case searching and primary healthcare to ensure timely treatment.
