Public health sanitation operations launched in Tivaouane and Guiriko

Public health authorities in Tivaouane and Guiriko are launching sanitation and vector control operations to combat insect proliferation following large gatherings and environmental concerns.

In Tivaouane, the Special Brigade of Hygiene Services has announced a spraying operation to reduce fly populations. The surge in flies is attributed to the delayed evacuation of organic waste, including food scraps and slaughterhouse remains, accumulated during the Gamou religious gathering. The intervention will follow cleaning efforts by the National Integrated Waste Management Company (SONAGED) and will include disinfection of collection points and illegal dumpsites.

In the Guiriko region, authorities have launched the second phase of the National Day of Integrated Vector Control (JNLAV) to fight malaria. Led by regional Secretary General Souleymane Nakanabo, the operation involves cleaning stagnant water areas and trash heaps that serve as mosquito breeding sites. The initiative emphasizes community responsibility, urging residents to maintain clean environments to eliminate larval habitats and reduce malaria-related hospitalizations and mortality.
