Public insecurity drives political debate in Barcelona and L’Hospitalet

Public safety and rising crime rates are becoming central political issues in Catalonia, specifically in Barcelona and L’Hospitalet de Llobregat.

In Barcelona, Vox leader Gonzalo de Oro has called for a debate on insecurity and illegal immigration. He criticizes the current administration's policies, arguing that increased police presence alone is insufficient and calling for the deportation of repeat foreign offenders. De Oro asserts that current management of social services and migration is overstretching local capacities.

Meanwhile, L’Hospitalet de Llobregat is facing a significant deterioration in public order. Residents in neighborhoods such as La Florida, Collblanc, and La Torrassa report an increase in violent robberies, intimidation, and the presence of criminal structures involving drug flats and gangs. Local authorities face criticism for a perceived lack of leadership and an inadequate response to the rise in crime, which has included three murders this year.
