Public institutions face trust crisis due to lack of accountability

Public institutions face a crisis of trust not necessarily due to the errors they commit, but due to their failure to respond to them. While mistakes are viewed as part of human and organizational life, the lack of accountability, explanations, or timelines for resolution creates significant public distrust.

Effective governance requires predictability. Citizens can often manage negative news or delays if they are communicated clearly, but silence and a lack of information lead to increased anxiety, rumors, and a breakdown in the relationship between the state and the public. Improving institutional quality requires a cultural shift where informing citizens and meeting deadlines are treated as essential components of public service.
