Public libraries launch community mural and literary contest

Public libraries in Uruguay and Argentina are launching community-focused cultural initiatives. In Florida, Uruguay, the Ariosto Fernández Municipal Library is inviting the community to contribute to a collective mural. Participants are encouraged to share reflections or memories to complete the phrase “A library is…”, with the resulting mural to be presented during the week of October 19 to 23 in observance of International Library Day.

In Olavarría, Argentina, the Armando Collinet Popular Library has announced a literary short story contest titled “Historias que esperan” (Stories that Wait). The competition is open to residents over the age of 18 and seeks unpublished works of any theme. Submissions must be between two and five pages in length and will be evaluated by a jury of experts in literature, teaching, and library management to promote local narrative creation.
