Public Onassis Schools expand to 20 units in Greece
The Public Onassis Schools have officially commenced the 2026-2027 academic year, expanding their presence across Greece. Building on the experience of their initial operating period, the network is growing from 12 to 20 school units. This expansion includes eight new middle and high schools opening in Aigaleo, Rhodes, Heraklion, and Pyrgos.
Funded by the Onassis Foundation, the initiative focuses on upgrading school infrastructure with high-quality materials and modern teaching tools. The program emphasizes student agency, allowing learners to explore interests through clubs and collaborative projects that extend beyond standard curricula.
In Heraklion, Crete, Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports Sofia Zacharaki, Onassis Foundation President Antonis S. Papadimitriou, and Heraklion Mayor Alex Kalokairinos attended the opening ceremonies for the 9th Daily Gymnasium and 10th General Lyceum of Heraklion.
