Public pools host end-of-summer dog swim events

Various municipalities across the United States are hosting end-of-summer dog swim events at public aquatic centers.

In the Kansas City area, several locations are holding dedicated sessions for pets before pools are drained for the season. Events include K9s at the Cove in Shawnee, Paws in the Pool in Lenexa, and the 10th annual Doggie Poolooza in Bonner Springs. Some locations, such as Olathe’s Oregon Trail Pool, organize swim times by dog size to manage the crowds.

In Los Angeles County, five pools from Cerritos to Sylmar are participating in the “Pooches in the Pool” event. The program includes specific regulations, such as requiring one adult handler per two dogs, prohibiting humans from entering the water, and requiring current animal licenses. These events typically serve as the final use of the facilities before seasonal maintenance and cleaning begins.
