Public recreational spaces face decay in Penedo and Blumenau

Residents in Penedo and Blumenau are expressing frustration over the deteriorating state of local public recreational spaces.

In Penedo, the Rocheira sports court in the Barro Vermelho area has fallen into severe disrepair. Local reports indicate damaged flooring, broken gates, and destroyed protective fencing. The area has reportedly become a site for illegal trash dumping, creating hygiene concerns for the community and visitors. Residents noted that while previous administrations attempted repairs, the work was left unfinished, leaving the space unusable for safe sports and leisure.

Similarly, in Blumenau, the Cirilo Theiss Square in the Velha Central neighborhood is facing criticism for broken playground equipment and unsafe structures. Residents have highlighted risks such as exposed metal, decaying wood, and irregular flooring, which pose physical dangers to children. In response to these concerns, the Blumenau city government stated that it is preparing a complete renovation of the site.
