Public Revenue Office Director discusses AI integration in tax administration

Elena Petrova, Director of the Public Revenue Office (UJP), emphasized the importance of integrating artificial intelligence and analytical tools into tax administration during the seventh German-Macedonian Controlling Conference held at Heidelberg University in Skopje.

Petrova stated that the primary challenge is not merely implementing AI, but creating a system capable of effectively utilizing the knowledge gained from these tools. She noted that controlling within the UJP involves planning, monitoring, reporting, analysis, and adaptation. The goal is to move beyond simply documenting past events to assisting in future decision-making.

She further argued that success should be measured by the impact on taxpayer behavior and tax compliance rather than just the volume of activities performed. Petrova highlighted that data analysis allows resources to be directed toward high-impact risks and stressed the necessity of quality, integrated data and clear indicators, referencing the international TADAT framework for assessing tax administration performance.
