Public safety and infrastructure theft reported in Calama and Cali
In Calama, Chile, the Public Security Directorate reported that figures for the first half of 2026 have already surpassed the total records for the entire year of 2025 across several inspection categories. Vehicle infractions rose by 7.3%, while the seizure of contraband cigarettes increased by 157.6%. Additionally, the municipality reported a significant increase in waste removal from public spaces, rising from 60 tons in 2025 to over 370 tons in the first half of 2026. Social intervention efforts also saw a rise, with the number of registered homeless individuals increasing from 124 in 2025 to 388 in the first six months of 2026.
In Cali, Colombia, the Secretariat of Mobility issued an alert regarding the theft and vandalism of traffic light infrastructure.
