Public sector disputes arise in Cyprus Ministry of Culture and Greek infrastructure oversight

Staff at the Cyprus Ministry of Culture held a one-hour strike on Wednesday to protest the actions of Director General Giorgos Papageorgiou. Employees allege that Papageorgiou is attempting to move the entire ministry budget under his sole control without the knowledge of department directors or political leadership. Workers also accused the Director General of dismantling departments and engaging in workplace intimidation.

In Greece, the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE) Epirus branch has criticized the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport for its silence regarding critical issues on the Egnatia Odos highway. The TEE Epirus reported that inquiries sent in April regarding road safety, tunnel licensing for tunnels exceeding 500 meters, and the financial implications of the highway's concession remain unanswered. The organization is seeking clarity on which entity is contractually responsible for necessary works and the technical justification for current traffic regulations.
