Regional healthcare and administrative updates in South America

Various regional healthcare and administrative developments are occurring across South America. In Paraguay, the Ministry of Health reported 446 resignations from medical specialists. Chief of Staff Juan Marcelo Estigarribia proposed a medical career ladder to address salary inequalities and prevent further strikes.

In Argentina, several health-related updates were reported. The Ministry of Health in Jujuy opened its second annual call for 2026 health science residencies, offering 38 spots across 16 specialties. In Reconquista, the Regional Hospital incorporated nine new medical residents in specialties including Pediatrics and Mental Health, supported by a 2.3 billion peso provincial investment. Meanwhile, the CAPS Libertador II health center in Catamarca remains closed, forcing local residents to seek care at alternative facilities.

In Colombia, the Procuraduría General de la Nación launched a merit-based competition to fill 3,051 positions. Over 17,000 people applied on the first day for roles ranging from technical to professional levels, with some salaries exceeding 10 million pesos.
