Public security initiatives focus on communication and staffing in Brazil and Mozambique
In Brazil, the Community Association for Public Security Matters (ACASP) held a meeting in Divinópolis to address critical shortages in the Civil Police. Representatives reported that a lack of delegates and an excessive accumulation of duties are hindering the institution's ability to serve the population. The association emphasized the need for increased political dialogue to secure resources and personnel.
In the state of Acre, the Secretariat of State for Justice and Public Security (Sejusp) is working to implement a radio communication network in remote municipalities, including Santa Rosa do Purus, Jordão, Marechal Thaumaturgo, and Porto Walter. These areas are only accessible by air or water. The initiative aims to provide security forces with immediate communication capabilities independent of internet or telephone signals.
In Mozambique, the Police Science Academy (ACIPOL) conducted a seminar in Maputo focused on strengthening university extension and community intervention. The institution is transitioning from providing simple improvement courses to developing diverse community projects, such as the ‘Meu Bairro Seguro’ (My Safe Neighborhood) program, to better link scientific research with local community needs.
