Brazil: Public Servant Day and local holidays impact services

The upcoming Public Servant Day on October 28 is designated as a 'ponto facultativo' (optional holiday) for the Brazilian federal administration, including direct administration, autarchies, and foundations. While it is not a national holiday, states and municipalities have the discretion to decide whether to suspend operations, though essential services like health and security typically remain active.

In Manaus, the city celebrates its 357th anniversary on October 24. Local authorities have confirmed that essential health services, including SAMU and maternity wards, will maintain 24-hour operations during the anniversary and the subsequent Public Servant Day. The industrial sector, represented by CIEAM, highlighted the importance of the Manaus Free Trade Zone to the region's economic development.

In Parnaíba, the local commerce will close on Monday, October 26, to celebrate the Merchant Day, though banks and public offices will function normally. Meanwhile, in Rondônia, the Public Ministry celebrated the date with a musical event titled 'Canto Para Todos', blending regional and Minas Gerais musical traditions.

In Cuiabá, the municipal government has scheduled the Public Servant Day break for Friday, October 30, per local decree. Essential services such as waste collection, water supply, and emergency health units will continue to operate, while specialized health centers will suspend non-emergency services.
