Public swimming pool users protest maintenance and closures

Citizens in various regions are protesting the management and potential closure of public swimming facilities. In Huesca, Spain, regular users of the Ruiseñor municipal pool have submitted a formal complaint to the City Council. They cite urgent maintenance needs, including the lack of handrails on access stairs, deteriorating changing rooms, water leaks, and inconsistent shower temperatures. Users also criticized the seasonal schedule, noting that the pool remained closed during heatwaves and has a shorter operating season than other facilities, which disproportionately affects elderly residents.

In Navarre, Spain, community members are organizing to protect local aquatic centers. At the Larrabide outdoor Olympic pool, a demonstration titled ‘Nada por Larrabide’ was held to demand that the Government of Navarre preserve the site as a social and sporting space. Similarly, users of the Aquavox facility in San Agustín have expressed opposition to municipal plans to demolish the site, citing its importance for senior citizens and those requiring aquatic therapy.
