Latin American regions implement public transport modernization

Various Latin American regions are implementing public transportation modernization initiatives involving new vehicle technologies and infrastructure maintenance.

In San Luis, Argentina, the company Panamericana, in collaboration with Pudong Motors, has introduced a compressed natural gas (CNG) bus for operational testing. The unit, imported from China, will undergo trials on routes connecting San Luis with Juana Koslay and Potrero de los Funes to evaluate its mechanical performance and fuel savings, which are projected to be between 30% and 40%.

In Cali, Colombia, five new electric articulated buses have entered service for the MÍO mass transit system. These 18-meter-long vehicles have a capacity of 160 passengers and are part of a larger fleet renewal plan to improve service reliability and reduce environmental impact.

In Panama, Metro de Panamá and Alstom have signed a $90 million contract for long-term maintenance of 235 Metropolis trains operating on Lines 1 and 2. The agreement covers major overhauls and inspections of critical systems such as braking, traction, and bogies to ensure fleet reliability.

In Veracruz, Mexico, the state government has introduced air-conditioned units across at least four bus routes as part of a public transport modernization program. These units aim to improve passenger comfort during high temperatures.
