Public Transport Construction Delays Extend in Jena and Oberursel, Germany

In Jena, tram‑track reconstruction in the Oberaue district has been extended to 14 August 2026 because unusually high summer temperatures caused rail expansion and work delays. The Jenaer Nahverkehr announced additional night shifts from 3 to 6 August and warned that tram lines 4 and 5 will continue to run with restrictions and a replacement service until the work is finished.

In Oberursel, the redevelopment of the Lahnstraße/Dornbachstraße intersection, part of the new GAZ project, has forced a complete closure of Dornbachstraße. As a result, city bus line 42 has been rerouted, with several stops removed. The CDU Oberursel Mitte‑Nord criticised the detour as insufficient for residents, especially the elderly and families, and urged the VHT to provide alternative stops during the construction period, which is expected to last until autumn 2027.
