Public transport issues affect school commutes in Germany

Students in different German regions are facing significant challenges with school transportation due to overcrowding and service disruptions.

In Wackersberg, parents have reported that school buses remain overcrowded despite efforts by the Munich Transport and Tariff Association (MVV) and the district office to increase capacity with larger vehicles. Mayor Jan Göhzold noted that infrastructure issues, including road closures in Bad Tölz, may be contributing to the problem as students frequently board at locations other than designated stops.

In Saarland, ongoing strikes by the GDL union affecting Saarbahn services have caused prolonged disruptions to school commutes. Parents in areas such as Heusweiler have expressed frustration over unreliable replacement bus services and unannounced cancellations. Critics argue that the instability of the public transport system is disproportionately impacting vulnerable groups, including children and the elderly.
