Public transport operators dismissed following drug tests in Mexico and Chile

Authorities in Mexico and Chile have taken action against public transport operators following drug use detections during safety inspections.

In Piedras Negras, Mexico, Municipal Transport Director Homero Castro announced that two urban transport operators were immediately dismissed after testing positive during 25 surprise anti-doping exams. These inspections were conducted in coordination with the Municipal Health Directorate following user requests for increased service security. Additionally, a taxi driver is facing dismissal and legal proceedings after allegedly driving under the influence and causing damage to two vehicles, leading to a police pursuit.

In Chile, a joint operation by Carabineros and SENDA officials on Route V-300 near Fresia identified a collective transport driver who tested positive for illicit substances while transporting passengers between Fresia and Puerto Montt. The operation, which included specialized alcohol and drug commissions, resulted in three detentions. Those individuals were released by the Public Ministry pending judicial summons.
