Public transport services and fares undergo changes in Italy
Public transport services and pricing are undergoing significant changes in different Italian regions. In Genoa, the AMT winter schedule for 2026/2027 shows substantial service reductions despite fares remaining at previous levels. According to Assoutenti Liguria, weekday trips will decrease by 18%, with over 20 lines being eliminated or significantly reduced. Specific lines face cuts ranging from 38% to 91%.
In the Lombardy region, the Agenzia TPL del Bacino della Città Metropolitana has decided to freeze ticket and subscription rates to protect citizens from inflation, absorbing a regional increase of 1.857% into municipal budgets. While most of the STIBM area, including Milan, will see no price changes, the municipalities of Legnano and Rho are implementing a partial measure where only annual subscriptions will remain frozen to support daily commuters.
