Public transport technology updates in Łódź and Poznań

In Łódź, a new speed monitoring device has been installed at the Piotrkowska Centrum tram stop, known locally as 'Stajnia Jednorożców'. The device displays the speed of approaching trams on a board: numbers appear green if the vehicle is traveling at 10 km/h or less, and turn red with a sad face and a 'SLOW DOWN' message if the speed exceeds that threshold. MPK Łódź clarified that the device is a speedometer intended to remind drivers of speed limits rather than a traditional speed camera, as it does not take photographs.

In Poznań, a collaborative research project involving Poznań University of Technology, MPK Poznań, and Signify has introduced an adaptive lighting system in a Tatra tram. The system adjusts lighting parameters based on the time of day and specific locations, such as displaying blue and white light effects near the Lech Poznań stadium. Researchers are studying how these circadian-inspired lighting changes affect passenger comfort, concentration, and well-being to evaluate the future use of such technology in public transit.
