Public transport ticket prices in Croatia could rise by 30 percent

The HUP Coordination of Public Line Carriers has called upon the Croatian Ministry of Science, Education and Youth and the Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure to increase subsidies for student transport and implement measures to preserve public bus lines.

Carriers warn that ticket prices could rise by up to 30 percent due to a 40 percent increase in fuel costs over the past year. They note that state subsidies for high school student transport have not been adjusted since the 2022/2023 school year.

In regions where local governments currently cover the remaining 25 percent of costs, these increases could result in new monthly expenses for parents ranging from 26.24 to 75.77 euros per student. Carriers also highlighted that many long-term contracts only allow for price adjustments based on fuel fluctuations, failing to account for rising driver wages and maintenance costs.
