Public transport updates in Rio de Janeiro and Niterói
MetrôRio has announced special operating hours for the All Souls Day holiday on November 2, 2026. The metro system will operate from 7:00 to 23:00, following a Sunday and holiday schedule. Lines 1 and 4 will run between Uruguai and Jardim Oceânico, while Line 2 will operate between Pavuna and Botafogo.
In Niterói, the Secretariat of Mobility and Infrastructure (Semobi) has begun testing Pix as a payment method on 11 buses across three municipal lines: 61 (Venda da Cruz to Icaraí), 67 (Morro do Castro/Cova da Onça to Centro), and 42 (Barreto to Centro). The initiative, conducted alongside bus companies and the electronic ticketing provider Prodata Mais Mobi, aims to automate payments and reduce the use of cash. While electronic payments currently account for 90% of transactions, the city aims to reach 100% by the end of the year. It remains unclear if Pix payments will include the discounts associated with the Bilhete Único de Niterói (BU) system.
